Josep M. Pastó Miró is a contemporary Spanish artist whose artistic journey began at a young age. He studied in private academies and at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts in Tàrrega. Though his professional career is in telecommunications, Pastó has always maintained his connection to the arts, working with wood, clay, and assemblage as a means of artistic expression and balance in his life.
For Pastó, working with clay and wood is an escape from everyday life, a creative journey where the process is more important than the final goal. His organic forms, often made from ceramic paste or wood, aim to convey a sense of smooth and continuous movement, as if everything were drawn from a single, unbroken line.
In contrast to his contemplative work with organic forms, his "Interpretations" sculptures are born from a more impulsive process. These works involve dismantling various machines and objects to understand their function before reassembling them with purely aesthetic intentions. In these sculptures, the original parts remain intact, preserving the memory and integrity of each piece used.
Pastó has evolved this concept by incorporating everyday recycled objects like butane bottles, golf clubs, and old lamps into semi-realistic sculptures, offering a fresh perspective on familiar items. Currently, he is exploring a new phase in his work, creating sculptures from unused materials and using welding techniques to form minimalist wire sculptures that capture the essential essence of each piece. Through his diverse and evolving body of work, Josep M. Pastó Miró continues to explore new interpretations of reality and artistic expression.
